Well, I just finished putting Millie to bed (and accidentally spilling a whole cup of water on her side) , and I thought I’d do a quick post.
If anyone hasn’t heard, Mr. Henry threw me a “man shower” when I was in Chattanooga. I don’t really like the sound of “man shower,” though, so I’ll call it an “alternative shower.” It was during Millie’s shower, and the premise was that each guy who came had to bring his favorite 6 pack, and I got to keep all the leftovers. Here’s what my fridge looks like right now:
As you can see, that’s a lot of loot!
The other highlight of the alternative shower was that we made a “Bacon Explosion.” What’s that, you ask?

THAT is an uncooked Bacon Explosion. THIS:

is a Bacon Explosion that has been smoked for 3 hours in the Big Green Egg: The World’s Best Smoker and Grill!! To make a Bacon Explosion, the first step is to carefully hand-weave a mat of bacon:

Then, you cover the mat with a layer of spicy sausage, crumbled cooked bacon, seasoning, and barbecue sauce:

After that, you just roll it up and stick it in the smoker! It really was very good; better than I expected. It didn’t taste too fatty, and because it picked up so much flavor from the hickory wood in the smoker, and also because it had a lot of sauce in it, it just tasted like really good barbecue! It seems like a recipe Paula Dean might like…
So, random post. Yesterday we were in our apartment and heard a huge WHAM! from the direction of the road (Washington Rd., right past Pollard’s Corner on the way to the lake). I went out on the balcony and saw a lot of cars stopping on the side of the road, and people getting out of their cars and running to a spot on the side of the road that was blocked from my sight by trees.
So I grabbed my camera and went out there, only to find this:

A truck flipped over on its side.

Apparently one of the rear tires blew out.

Which sent the car out of control.

And it rolled over 2 or 3 times.

They had to pull the driver out of the windshield.

The driver, who you can see sitting on the other side of the tree, suffered only a small scratch on her finger.
Anyway, that’s about it. As you can see from the pictures, by the time I got out to the road there were already probably too many people crowded around the truck trying to help the woman out, so I snapped the pictures. Obviously if my help was needed I would not have stood around taking pictures.
Well, our desktop computer died (suprise, suprise…it was from Computer Exchange. I think they call it that because they know after you buy from them you’ll be back there soon to exchange your broken computer for a new one). I decided to build one myself instead of buying one already assembled from one of the big companies. It took forever to decide what parts I wanted to buy, but putting it all together and getting it working wasn’t too bad. And it cost us $317 instead of what would cost maybe $600 in the store. Anyway, I’m proud of my first computer build so here’s some pictures of it. The new one is a lot smaller than the old, and probably weighs 1/3 as much.
Also, for those of you who may not check Facebook, here’s the latest picture of how big Rachel’s getting (last week – 33 weeks).

The inside, all put together.

The new one versus the old.

33 Weeks

Rachel and I made some good wings yesterday. The cooking method was weird…instead of frying them, you steam them for a few minutes and them bake them in the oven. They turned out just as crispy on the outside and moist on the inside as fried wings, plus they’re healthier for you (they’re not fried in oil, and a lot of the fat is able to render out in the cooking process). Alton Brown, the Good Eats guy, gave us this method. We made a spicy honey sauce and a spicy asian sauce to coat them with (the top ones are asian, the bottom ones honey).
That’s all I have to say.
