Merry Christmas

Hi family. So this is my Christmas present to the family this year. What is it, you ask? Why, nothing less than the Sanders in the 21st century! OK, more specifically, it’s a couple things:

First off, it is a domain name (sandersconnection.com) that we own for at least the next two years. What’s the good in that? One cool thing about is that we each get an e-mail address that is simple to remember, and for other people to remember too:

andy@sandersconnection.com
ilene@sandersconnection.com
adam@sandersconnection.com
millie@sandersconnection.com
aaron@sandersconnection.com
rachel@sandersconnection.com
sarah@sandersconnection.com
andrew@sandersconnection.com
jonathan@sandersconnection.com
and
dan@sandersconnection.com

Now that makes for 12 e-mail addresses, which means that we have 2988 more that we can come up with for free. Perhaps a:

caleb@sandersconnection.com
nedflanders@sandersconnection.com
anonymous@sandersconnection.com
crackerisnomore@sandersconnection.com

or, if we’re really feeling crazy:
GrandmaCarol@sandersconnection.com

The sky’s the limit as far as e-mail addresses go, and I will show anyone who wants how to set up new addresses.

Second, this is a blog. That’s what you are seeing right now. I’m giving each of us a login to the blog so that we can all post to it. Some of you might not know what a blog is. If that is the case, you may click the word blog for a helpful article that explains the concept. One of the first orders of business is for us to decide on a better name for this blog, unless everyone likes “The Sandbox.” If you have a better suggestion, you should post it to the blog! The words you are reading right now are the first ever post to this blog, but every time someone makes a new post it will appear at the top of this page. Perhaps the blog will fizzle out and go nowhere. Or, perhaps we will all have fun posting to it and updating each other on what is going on with us from day to day. Perhaps Aaron will upload his funny drawings for all of us to see. Perhaps Andrew will post whacked-out pictures of flowers he takes under cover of darkness. Perhaps Jonathan will post asking me to help him get a video game working. Perhaps mom or Sarah will post a recipe. Perhaps dad will post Sanders Family Devotionals :-) The point is, this blog can be just about whatever we want it to be.

Third, and finally, this is home to any webpages we may want to make in the future. You see how the address you are at now looks like: “…nection.com/blog”. One thing I am planning on doing in the near future is making another part of the site called: “…nnection.com/pictures”, where we can all upload our digital photos into a gallery that our friends and family can view. The host we are with gives us over 200 Gigabytes of storage space, so basically the scalability is endless. We can add as many other sites to the “sandersconnection.com” domain as we want. For example:

1. We could have a page that is a digital “file locker,” where we can upload MP3s, school papers, videos, and so forth, so that we can access them from any computer that has an internet connection.

2. Someone in the family – Andrew, for example – might want to learn about website design. And so he could build his own little website at “…ndersconnection.com/andrew” and make it about whatever he wants, Swiss snowglobes, for example.

3. We could set up a chatroom at “…ndersconnection.com/chat” where if any of us happen to be logged onto the site at the same time we can chat with each other in a little window.

4. Sarah could start selling challah and rugelach over the internet.

5. Really, anything else you can think of. If you have a good idea of something to do with the site, let me know. I don’t know how to do all of these things yet, but I’m going to be learning over time. You can do the same.

But for now, this site is primarily a blog, and I do hope we can get some use out of it. I love you all!

Adam
